Houttuynia is a robust and versatile perennial. Plants are both moisture and drought tolerant, and will thrive in almost any position from sun to dappled shade.
The heart-shaped leaves of Houttuynia cordata ‘Chameleon’ are completely unique, with splashes of green, gold and red. When crushed, the foliage emits a pungent orange fragrance. Throughout mid-summer, the spreading stems are covered in pure white flowers. Houttuynia makes excellent ground cover through borders or around boggy pond margins. Height: 30cm (12″). Spread: 100cm (39″).
Culinary note: The leaves have an orange like smell and make a marvellous flavouring in salads. For more details about edible flowers click here.
