Viburnum Plicatum ‘Pinkawai’

We’re always on the lookout for shrubs that retain all the best features of their larger cousins but have smaller dimensions to suit smaller gardens. Viburnum plicatum ‘Pinkawai’ is one of a series of new Viburnums that fits the bill precisely. It barely grows taller than 80-100cm but doesn’t spare on beautiful deep green leaves pared with large flat umbels of flowers from May to July. The umbels are composed of sterile buds in the centre surrounded by simple flowers that emerge blushed pink and mature to white. The flowers are followed by bright red berries that turn black as they ripen. This low maintenance shrub makes a rewarding choice for borders or containers. Height: 80-100cm (31-39in). Spread: 50cm (20in).
